Lipid peroxidation, brush border, and neutrophil enzyme activity after small bowel preservation: a comparison of preservation solutions.

چکیده
I MPROVEMENT of organ preservation is essential for the success of small bowel transplantation. In the present study, canine small bowels were preserved for 24 hours in University of Wisconsin (UW). Euro-Collins (EC), or lactated Ringer's (LR) solution to evaluate which solution is appropriate. Biochemical changes in the graft during preservation and reperfusion were determined, and were compared among groups.

Protective effect of polyethylene glycol against prolonged cold ischemia and reperfusion injury: study in the isolated perfused rat kidney.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate an intracellular solution with polyethylene glycol (PEG, molecular weight 20,000) as an impermeant, compared with University of Wisconsin (UW) and Euro-Collins (EC) solutions, after a 48-h cold storage (CS). The normothermic isolated perfused rat kidney (IPK) technique was used to assess renal function after CS. Five groups were studied: a control group...
متن کاملIncreased activity of digestive enzymes in ileal enterocytes adapting to proximal small bowel resection.
The ability of adapting ileal enterocytes to express different digestive enzymes in their brush border membranes was tested in young female Wistar rats (n = 72) receiving 60% proximal small bowel resection. In control rats with intestinal transection both neutral aminopeptidase and alpha-glucosidase activities were shown, by quantitative cytochemistry, to increase during enterocyte migration ov...
متن کاملEnhancement of ileal adaptation by prednisolone after proximal small bowel resection in the rat.
The effect of prednisolone on the adapted ileum of the rat after jejunal resection was examined. Three weeks after 50% proximal small bowel resection animals were fed pharmacological doses of soluble prednisolone (0.75 mg/kg/day) over a one week period, and killed at four weeks. Animals treated with prednisolone showed significant increases in brush border alpha-glucosidase, leucyl-2-napththyla...
متن کاملPreservation of Glucose Transport and Enzyme Activity in Fish Intestinal Brush-border and Basolateral Membrane Vesicles
The preservation of glucose transport and membrane-bound enzyme activity in intestinal brush-border and basolateral membrane vesicles from the euryhaline teleost, Oreochromis mossambicus, was examined. Transport was well-preserved when the vesicles were either frozen in liquid nitrogen or lyophilized and stored in the presence of trehalose. Transport activity was not well-maintained when vesicl...
متن کاملEnzyme changes in human small bowel mucosa during culture in vitro.
Human jejunal biopsy slices were maintained in culture for up to 48 hours. At 24 hours there was good morphological preservation but by 48 hours there was ultrastructural evidence of damage to the enterocytes. During culture the tissue had lost a certain amount of protein. At the same time the levels of three brush border enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, alpha-glucosidase, and leucyl-beta-naphthy...
